Design for education

We have deep experience with public and private institutions, universities, colleges and independent schools.

We know your audience

All kinds of schools have all kinds of audience groups. We’re proud to work with public, private and charter schools, primary and secondary education, from admissions to researchers. We have experience communicating with prospective and enrolled students, parents, alumni, and faculty. To design for education, we need to understand their goals and needs as well as yours.  We design annual fund appeals, major gifts campaigns, department and school websites, viewbooks, research reports, lab and program branding, research infographics and presentations, symposium event materials, homecoming signage acceptance packages, and the list goes on.

Our design is purposeful. It enables and elevates your organizational objectives, successfully addresses your audience’s needs, and elicits profoundly emotional connections.

We design for accessibility

We care to make our websites accessible to all audiences. We design and develop WCAG 2.1 AA compliant websites using WordPress, Webflow, and Drupal. Download our Accessibility Web Content Guide.

Kleinman Center - Energy policy research website

Web design for education

The Kleinman Center for Energy Policy at the University of Pennsylvania creates the conditions for policy innovation that support a just and efficient transition to sustainable energy by conducting research across 10 research areas, providing events, courses, and a variety of other publications.

One of the website redesign goals was to bring the cutting edge research and the many types of publications the center produces to be the focus of the website. We organized the research in a user-friendly way to allow users to easily browse and filter research projects, publications, news and insights, events, and podcast episodes.

The Kleinman website is accessible following the WCAG 2.1 AA standards.

Branding for education

The McGovern Institute is a collaborative community of world-class, highly specialized researchers who set out to explore and understand the brain in order to help people with brain disorders and enhance the human experience. Upon its founding, the organization petitioned the design of a logo. Over time, however, as their mission evolved and as the logo’s functional challenges emerged, there was a need for change.

Our team was tasked with brand strategy and logo design. After testing several logo options with the target audiences, the team moved forward with an option that retains the essence of the original logo but provides a more functional and contemporary feel.

Data visualization for education

We were thrilled to work with CIRCLE at Tufts University on this custom data visualization and interactive infographic that allows users to explore youth voting and civic engagement and to learn about the conditions that shape youth engagement. Our goal was to provide the data and lay it out in a way that suggests a correlation between youth engagement and community conditions.

Opus is so much more than vibrant design: everyone we worked with is a talented teacher and process facilitator, able to help define and reach critical goals. We thought we were hiring designers and instead we got whip-smart strategy consultants who happen to be artists.

Print design for education

We worked with MIT UROP to create a communication piece that showcases the program and students. We decided to tell the story of UROP through the participants themselves — from first-year to senior — and let four individuals describe who they are, their research interests and how UROP is making it all possible. We worked with 2 talented photographers to capture great images for the piece.

Opus at CASE D1 conference

We believe that continuous learning, with our clients, is a great way to stay current and responsive to your needs.  Opus has been a CASE D1 conference sponsor since 2013. We enjoy learning about what marketers in education are doing to support annual giving, alumni relations, branding, development campaigns and fundraising, event marketing, major gifts, print and digital communications, social media engagement, student recruitment, and website design.

We love being a part of the community at the conference, support the event with our design services (see the logo design we created for the 2020 conference), and learning more about the challenges and solutions in the field.

In 2017, our creative director Julia Frenkle presented a session at the conference in collaboration with Hillary Babick from MassArt with the topic “Communicating with Designers”. The session was very successful and received great feedback. Now, we provide the content of this session to our client in the form of a design workshop.

Award-winning design
