Women-Owned Business of the Year

Opus Design was honored on Tuesday June 7th as the Massachusetts Women-Owned Business of the Year! Julia and I received the major award from William M. McAvoy, Deputy Assistant Secretary and Chief Legal Counsel, Supplier Diversity Office, Operational Services Division. We’ve been a certified women-owned business since 2014 and the award was based on growth over two years, 2015 and 2016.

The ceremony took place in the Great Hall of Flags where all the Massachusett cities are represented. We found the Groton flag (where Emily is from) and Yarmouth flag (where Ellery grew up) and ran out of time looking for other special places.

Gary Lambert, Assistant Secretary, Operational Services Division talked about the state’s mission to support diversity in government spending and the progress made in the last year. Seven departments received awards for exceeding their benchmarks. Besides Opus, there were six other businesses that won in their respective categories, including Minority-Owned Business, Fernandes Line Construction.

Some of the projects we designed for the state include the T-Dashboard and the logo as well as research reports, for the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission.

At the end of our visit, we walked through some of the beautiful rooms and with Julia’s help, snagged a team photo with the Governor. Thumbs up!
