Opus works with Social Innovators

This will be out 5th year working with Root Cause and the Social Innovation Forum (SIF). Every year, the Cambridge-based non-profit selects 4-6 organizations who are particularly innovative and create social impact in the Greater Boston area. They work with the groups for several months and among other things, help them prepare for the Forum (which is modeled after a VC forum) where they have a terrific opportunity to present themselves and their work, meet potential funders, network, and generally gain support.

As in past years, Opus Design works with each organization to design their powerpoint presentation template as well as the killer graphic that helps them tell their story. Designing the model graphic becomes a valuable exercise in not only information design, but also fine tuning their message and delivery. It has been an amazing experience to learn and work with close to 30 different non-profits through the Forum. If you haven’t attended before, it’s an exciting event!

Last week, Julia, Ellery and I met with the innovators and presented examples of model graphics and helpful templates. It was fun to answer their questions and see how excited they are to develop these materials. You can read more about the 2013 innovators on the Root Cause website. They are AgeWell West Roxbury, Groundwork Lawrence, GRLZradio, Safe City Academy (a program of Dorchester Youth Collaborative), and Shelter Music Boston!
