The client
EdVestors is a non-profit organization that focuses on improving the quality of Boston schools. They are driving change in schools through seeding new innovative ideas, helping school success stories, art expansion and math achievement. They believe in the children of Boston and they need a great homepage design to attract and welcome visitors.
The project
Opus was hired to design the Edvestors new website. They wanted a vibrant site design that was inspired by an infographic that Opus designed to help them describe their model. They wanted their website to be youthful, appealing, and user-friendly to individuals and schools applying for their assistance. It also needed to be relevant to their funders including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
Design challenge and approach
Senior Designer Casey McGee, designed the homepage and as well as the initial model graphic for EdVestors. The graphic helps viewers learn about their initiatives and overall vision.
Casey featured this graphic on the homepage with custom icons and vibrant colors. The icons help users navigate to a particular initiative of interest. She also added their mission statement and a photo for even more visual interest.
The challenge came in deciding how to make this graphic easy to navigate on all types of devices. The option of stacking the colored initiative blocks made the information on the homepage too cumbersome for scrolling. The solution was found by using a slider containing one or two horizontal blocks, depending on the size of the screen.
Being flexible, looking for ways to meet client needs, and keeping the design consistent and clean, turned this infographic into a vibrant homepage feature.
