A Truly Unique Concept
There are places you can go in Boston to eat and play a board game. Usually the boxes are piled up on a shelf for folks to grab on a first come first serve basis, and maybe some pieces for the game will be missing. If you arrive with five people, you could be out of luck. Tavern of Tales is different. You can reserve a private room which guarantees your game play and even includes custom sound effects and narration.
Capturing Brand Essence
Nicholas Chen was looking for a Boston graphic design agency to help him develop branding for his new board game cafe. He chose us to design a logo for Tavern of Tales which would open soon in Mission Hill. He wanted the logo design to welcome visitors like a “tavern” and intrigue them with the unexpected, interactive sound effects and storytelling. The new logo, which has a game-piece-like building, set on a modern, faux wood sign, is now displayed on their building in Boston.

Logo Design & Visual Identity Design
After learning more about Nicholas, a trained sound engineer, and how the new restaurant would be different from anything else in town, our designers started sketching and developing logo ideas.
We included many designers on our team for this logo design because it was so much fun and we because we wanted to ensure diversity in the design approaches. Our designers created so many awesome logo design options. After narrowing them down internally, we still presented 22 options to Nick! That was definitely a record for us but there were so many great ideas, we just had to share them.
It was a tough choice but after a couple of iterations we finalized the logo and the graphic designers prepared the visual identity, color palette, and styleguide.
