Costa is a produce and specialty foods distributor that has been serving dining establishments throughout New England for more than sixty-five years. Because of our specialized experience in the food industry, they came to us looking for a new website to showcase their brand in a modern and visual way, to create an intuitive experience for their various users, and to build the site in a way that was also simple for them to update on the backend.
A heritage brand
Costa has a strong brand presence as their logo is seen throughout New England on their distribution trucks, so we worked closely with their marketing team to ensure that the refreshed website felt familiar to the heritage brand, while also bringing a modern palette, hand-drawn illustration style, modern food photography, updated typefaces, and more for an approachable, modern sophistication.
As part of the design, we created hand-drawn illustrations throughout the site. We selected this style to reflect the handcrafted nature of food, especially fruit and produce being sourced directly from the farm, and give the user a sense for the personal and approachable service of Costa. The illustrations also gave us the opportunity to showcase multiple items together in a category vs. having to take another photo, and offer a unique visual element that adds dimension to the design.
Costa’s broad selection of produce couldn’t be captured with stock photography alone. And, more importantly, we wanted to highlight the quality and diversity of their produce with custom photography. We helped to art direct photoshoots here in the Boston area, working with the client, the food photographer, and the food stylist to ensure the shoot was inspired, well organized, efficient, and we were able to capture all the shots we needed for our website design.
