A colorful update

The website design for the Physics Department at MIT transformed the site with a dramatic before/after. The previous website had been designed a long time ago with a stark red and black color palette; the new color palette combines bright energetic colors with neural colors to build a strong information hierarchy and engaging, inviting look and feel.

Core sections of the site include undergraduate and graduate student pages as well as information on the research areas. Each research area features an overview, faculty, news, as well as affiliated labs and centers. For the research area pages, the content management system does most of the work for website admins by cross-referencing and automatically updating information from other sections on the site.

Accessible to all audiences

After over ten years of working with higher education clients, we are very familiar with their unique requirements. For higher education websites like this one, we build and design sites that are AA compliant for user accessibility. Learn more about color accessibility on the web.

Center for Theoretical Physics website design

The web pages of the Center for Theoretical Physics were incorporated into the Physics Department website to eliminate the need for a stand alone microsite and provide cohesive visual design and branding. This section of the website features its own navigation to showcase people, research, and seminars.

WordPress content management system

The user experience for website administrators is a critical aspect of a website design that we really care about. The easier and more intuitive web admins can maintain website content, the more current the site will be. And an up-to-date website creates a great user experience for external audiences. During website development, we implemented the WordPress CMS for the site, built-in automation wherever possible, provided notes throughout the CMS so admins know right where they edit about functionality and character limits, and many other small but powerful tools for easy website administration.
