Foam Day at Opus Design

Once a month we grab our mugs and fill them with a hot beverage.  We have a steamed milk foam maker for those who enjoy extra cream with their coffee.  With our mugs in hand, we gather in our lounge to hear a team-member present.  They can talk about a successful project, teach about an area of expertise, or share something of interest with the group. Previous foam presentations include sharing information web design, insights from a WordPress conference, report design, and clamming on the Cape.

On one Foam Day Yuriy, our Full Stack Software Engineer, explained a challenge he had faced in developing a recent web design and how he solved it. The MIT Chemical Engineering web design included a dynamic grid with different sized tile areas for news items. It was a beautiful design at the start, but how could it be built to ensure that when adding new stories over time,  the balance of shapes and colors would be maintained. Explaining the problem, and how he solved it, helped us to appreciate how the designer and developer need to work closely during a web design project.  Foam presentations like this are easy team-building events which allow us all to learn more about each other’s work.

The team at Opus values continuous learning and taking time to share helpful information with each other.
