Design show at MassArt

“Above the Fold.”

On June 11, 2015, MassArt opened a new show  in the Sandra and David Bakalar Gallery called “Above the Fold.” “Above the Fold” is the third biennial juried alumni exhibition devoted to design of all kinds. There was fashion design, industrial design, environmental design, architectural design, dynamic media design and of course, graphic design. There were 39 artists selected for this show and 3 of them were from Opus Design. Julia, Ellery and Emily were all chosen to display their work.  Kinda cool, of course. But when I actually saw the other designers and the strength and breadth of their projects, I realized it was WAY cool.

I met Jim Tirone, who graduated in 2007. He’s an industrial designer in Baltimore and his work included a Black and Decker hand sander and a beautifully designed rechargeable leaf blower in the DeWalt yellow and black. Very cool to imagine work from MassArt grads appearing here as well as Home Depot, improving our DIY lives.

These are the Opus projects that were displayed: the brand identity for Southern Vermont Deerfield Valley, the infographics designed for Harvard Business Publishing, and the website design for MIT’s Office of Engineering Outreach which was shown along with their new logos (designed by Casey).
